The pristine Cowichan Lake Area is situated on southern Vancouver Island 1 1/2 hours northwest of Victoria and 1 hour southwest of Nanaimo. At 500 feet above sea level Cowichan Lake, 21 miles/34km long, is the second largest lake on Vancouver Island and is surrounded by 3,000 foot mountains. This area is considered an ideal destination for a family vacation or an outdoor adventure.

ow designated a heritage river, the world-famous Cowichan River meanders through town and continues east for 50 miles emptying into Cowichan Bay. This ever-changing river has been a favourite destination for fishermen from throughout the world since the early 1900's.

Many adventurous travelers take secondary gravel roads leading out of the Cowichan Lake area to Port Renfrew, Bamfield, Nitinat Lake and the old-growth forests of the Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park and the West Coast Trail.
